My Poor Little Blog

Not much going on around here I guess.  I've had some vacation time, been working too hard, and have generally had nothing to say.  So what did I do on my summer vacations?  Mostly went to western North Carolina (twice) to enjoy the splendor the mountains.  While there, I saw:

The hippest, fanciest duck ever.

An Octopus wandering the streets of Asheville

The tallest point (in the United States) east of the Mississippi (Mt. Mitchell)

Grandfather Mountain

A crazy Llama

And a new Sheriff in Town

Overall, the summer of 2011 was a lot of fun. Now, if I can only find a way to make fall that much fun too.

The Past Comes Alive

The Library of Congress has published 700 photographs of Civil War soldiers. While the Civil War seems like the distant, distant past it really isn't. People from the era were still alive when the WWII Generation were young. We're only separated from these people by one, maybe two generations.

The stunning thing about these photographs is how young and recognizable the subjects are. I live in an area between two large universities and many of the subjects could be swapped for their modern counterparts.

Look Up

I was looking through some pictures and noticed that I've taken some shots while looking up.  I didn't have a lot to say today so I thought I'd share some photographs instead. They're all over here in case you want to look at some more.  Maybe I'll do a series for Look Down too.
